Arnstadt, founded in 704, is nowadays considered the oldest settlement of Thuringia. Narrow, paved alleys and well-restored historical buildings give the city its very special character. Of particular interest for the whole family is the baroque dolls town “Mon Plaisir” in the Palace Museum.

Again you can follow the traces of Johann Sebastian Bach. The Bach Church, a Bach Museum and a monument at the historical market square remember the famous composer, who lived and worked there from 1703 to 1707 and married his first wife at the St. Bartholomew Church in Dornheim near Arnstadt. Other famous residents of the town were the author Marlitt and the poet Ludwig Bechstein.
